Asking for a written proposal will not only enable you to conduct a price comparison, but it will also give you an initial feel for the contractor.
How well do they outline the project and scope out the work? How quickly were they able to turn around the estimation? Were they easy to communicate with? Were they professional, polite, etc.?

We live in a day and age where you can give, and get, instant feedback which is why many of us have become reliant on reviews before making purchasing decisions.

This may not be the best method and should only be used as a last call.

Do a deeper dive through their website and look at the list of clients they share and their history. have they worked with any reputable people or big companies? How long have they been in the industry? What qualifications or training do they have? Are there any pictures of their work?

These are all questions you could ask when they visit the site and put together their quote, but it never hurts to do your own independent research and see what you can find out for yourself.
This can be particularly important if you require a bespoke floor or specialist service and want to ensure that the contractor has the right expertise in this area to deliver a high-quality finish.
